Myriad Group AG announced the launch of Myriad Alien Dalvik, enabling Android apps to run on non-Android platforms.

Myriad Alien Dalvik for Nokia N900 / Maemo 5

From a user perspective, Alien Dalvik is completely transparent. Alien Dalvik applications appear as native and can be seamlessly installed on device without user disruption.

Myriad Alien Dalvik will be commercially available later this year on the MeeGo platform. Other platform support will be announced in the coming months. Alien Dalvik will be demonstrated for the first time on the Nokia N900 at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 14th-17th.

Building on the launch of Dalvik Turbo, Alien Dalvik signifies Myriads latest Android innovation by enabling Android apps to operate on a much wider range of platforms and devices. As a result, operators, OEMs and application store owners can now easily access the Android ecosystem and deploy Android applications across multiple device operating systems, all without compromising performance.

Alien Dalvik enables the majority of Android applications to run unmodified, allowing application store owners to quickly kick start Android application store services by simply repackaging Android Package (APK) files.

From a user perspective, Alien Dalvik is completely transparent. Alien Dalvik applications appear as native and can be seamlessly installed on device without user disruption. All the user sees is that he now has access to a wider range of applications.

Seems vaporware. The only app ever demoed is that Photoshop thing and I am betting that the company simply re-implemented this one app for Maemo as a concept demo in order to get funding for the actual Alien Dalvik. I can see too many potential legal and technical problems with this, making it very unfeasible that they'd actually ever release the product. That being said, I still think that Android support on Maemo is quite feasible, especially as a community effort, and I'd love to see that flying on Harmattan. That would be another one in Elop's face :) [Rate: 0/10]

Hyperware - can't be bought by end user and all who already has a N900 can't get it preinstalled, so no way that anypne with an N900 will be able to get this, if it will be released. The only ones who may get this is those with a BlackBerry with the new QNX operating system. [Rate: 1/10]

Most people in holland have a two year contract with there provider. against the time this will come the most of them don't have a n900 annymore. I think that te most of them will change to a Android phoon. Pity that we have to wait so lang for this. The problem with n900 I think is that de apps there are now noboddy want's or need and the apps that we want we don't get. So lets hope this will come fast then we have stil someting for the n900 [Rate: 9/10]

Brilliant projects like this could drastically shape the future of the mobile phone industry, but those making decisions at the highest level are never gone spend more money buying this for multiple reason, like for example is not in the interest of Nokia to help android make profits, hence why they decided to go down the road of using windows mobile so that they can have their own app catalogue. The developers of this product could make this product profitable by releasing it to the general public, maybe even as a trial product, so people can see what is or not possible to do. [Rate: 10/10]

This would have saved Nokia if they hadn't gone and jumped into bed with Micro$oft the fools. Phase in maemo, meego or whatever they want to call it, keep clutzy sibling for low end stuff and be able to tap into the wealth of android apps propelling them to NO1 smartphones while keeping their company beliefs. Now when Microsoft fail in mobile os they will buy Nokia up for pittance. [Rate: 10/10]
