Wagic is an heroic fantasy collectible trading card game.
In Wagic, you play as a wizard against the CPU with your army of minions. You start the game with a small collection of cards (symbolizing creatures and spells), and as you win battles against the AI, you earn credits that allow you to buy more cards and build more powerful decks. As you play, you unlock cards and new game modes, so Wagic is much more than a simple card simulation.

Wagic 0.14 has just been released. This port of Magic the Gathering (MTG) allows play with the vast majority of cards in existence. Play either in a duel where you build a deck and play against the computer AI or in the Story Mode, which includes a mix of user generated content, including narrative, puzzles (reminiscent of Magic the Puzzling from the Duelist magazine) and some themed duels against the Computer AI.
The actual MTG card images can be displayed and after downloading (nb this is a separate download running to a couple of GB) and installing look stunning on the N900's screen.
Version 0.14 includes touch screen support, which some users report allow dueling without any need for keyboard. I have not been able to replicate this as I seem unable to reliable activate cards in zones other than the battlefield.
The AI is rather basic, hence I much prefer story mode, where there is less randomness as the cards in the duels and puzzles are predetermined based on the story - which means less choices for the AI and hence less potential blunders.
Due to
1) the fact that it is of somewhat limited appeal - I don't see people picking this up unless they already have some exposure to MTG - there is no tutorial mode to teach those unfamiliar with the game either;
2) the somewhat cramped keyboard interface - this is a port of the PSP game so requires keyboard mapping of ten keys combined with the current foibles in the touch screen interface which does not mean you can really do away with the keyboard; and
4) the weak AI
this game cannot score a perfect ten.
However this is a must have for any N900 user also familiar with MTG - no better way to pass the time if you are on the move!

Port of great Magic The Gathering homebrew engine. Downloading and playing with scanned real cards is highly recommended! [Rate: 8/10] |
